Squatting is a world of extremes. Sometimes, as I lay in my bed in some beautiful old Georgian flat, heating blasting, eating delicious free food, I wonder why anyone bothers to pay rent. The day started early. We are currently squatting a small, four roomed flat above an HSBC branch in Brighton and this morning was our allocated slot in Court. HSBC had produced a set of ridiculous eviction papers claiming we posed a “serious threat to it’s staff and customers” and they were worried we might drill through the floor into the bank branch and “precipitate a hostage situation”.
