Nine hurt, suspect killed in ‘terrifying’ Ohio State attack

November 28, 2016

A man crashed his vehicle into pedestrians on the Ohio State campus in Columbus on Monday, then slashed students with a butcher knife before being fatally shot by a university police officer, authorities said. Nine people were rushed to hospitals and one was in critical condition, according to university Police Chief Craig Stone. The drama began shortly before 10 a.m. ET, when the suspect deliberately drove up over the curb and began his attack, Stone said. He said the officer arrived about a minute later and engaged the suspect. “We are very fortunate that an OSUPD officer was there and took quick action,” Stone said.

Do Guns Make A Nation Safe?

Recently I came across a video by ScIQ, which is a group linked with The Young Turks, which made some rather odd statements regarding safety and gun ownership. This is what Jayde Lovell had to say in her video:

“…So it turns out that our confidence in guns is woefully missguided, the evidence overwhelimingley shows that guns leave everbody less safe including their owners and this is not my opinion, these are the facts…” ~ Jayde Lovell, ScIQ

Jayde Lovell goes on to say:

“One study published in the reputable American Journal of Medicine looked at 27 developed countries to see if there was a relationship between guns and safety. They found no correlation between guns per capita per country and the crime rate meaning that if you add more guns to the population you don’t do much to affect the amount of crime, but what they found was a significant positive correlation between the number of guns in the population and firearm related deaths, basically the more guns the more people that die of gun injuries” ~ Jayde Lovell, ScIQ

Ironically ScIQ provided a link to an Harvard Law study called “Would Banning Firearms Reduce Murder and Suicide” which goes against what she is saying in her video and here is what I found in that study within the first few pages:

A look at the latest FBI news on the Clinton email case

October 29, 2016

WASHINGTON — The FBI’s announcement that it recently came upon new emails that may be pertinent to the Hillary Clinton private email server investigation raised more questions than answers. FBI Director James Comey said in a letter to Congress on Friday that the bureau had discovered the emails while pursuing an unrelated case and would now review whether the messages were classified. The three-paragraph announcement, though vague in details, immediately resurfaced an issue that has dogged Clinton for her entire campaign — and will clearly persist for the remaining 10 days.

Tube alert: Police given more time to hold suspect

October 23, 2016

Counter-terror police investigating the discovery of a suspicious item on a Tube train have been granted a warrant to hold a man for further questioning. The 19-year-old was arrested in north London on Friday, a day after the device was blown up in a controlled explosion at North Greenwich station. Westminster magistrates say he can now be detained until 12:20 BST on Friday. Searches are continuing at a house in Newton Abbot, Devon, but police say a device found there was “not viable”. Homes were evacuated and a 200m (650ft) cordon set up after the device was found at the house in Tudor Road earlier. The cordon has since been removed.

Iraq not ready to cope with humanitarian fallout from Mosul battle, aid groups say

October 18, 2016

Aid organisations are warning Iraq is woefully underprepared for the expected exodus of civilians fleeing the fighting in Mosul, and the battle could see civilian bloodshed on a massive scale. The Iraqi Army began assaulting the Islamic State (IS) stronghold this week, with Iraqi Special Forces spearheading the attack assisted by coalition air support and backed up by a 30,000-strong force of Iraqi troops. But aid groups warn that military success in Mosul could lead to a humanitarian disaster. There are grave fears for the safety of those still living in the city, as well as those trying to escape through the frontlines. Humanitarian organisations have been barred from Mosul since IS took over the city two years ago. Now they are scrambling to prepare camps and resources for the hundreds of thousands of civilians expected to flee in all directions from the city.

Agree but there may be opportunities as the Iraqi piece improves.

Also, any idea whose fighters attacked Islamist positions in Tripoli, Libya?
Worth analyzing for future purposes.
