Theresa May has warned that Britain is in the grip of a spate of copycat terror attacks in the wake of the London Bridge atrocity. The Prime Minister delivered a stark assessment of the threat facing the UK after seven people were murdered and dozens more injured by three terrorists on Saturday night. It was the third terrorist outrage to hit the country this year following the Westminster and Manchester attacks. Speaking outside Downing Street, Mrs May said that although there was no direct link between the three incidents, “terrorism breeds terrorism”.
Earlier, Scotland Yard revealed the death toll from the terrorist attack in London Bridge has risen to seven and almost 50 were injured. Meanwhile, 12 people have been arrested in connection with the attack in Barking, east London, following an armed police raid at a block of flats.Metropolitan Police commissioner Cressida Dick condemned the atrocity as “appalling” and “ghastly”. She said police believe there were three attackers at London Bridge and Borough Market and that all had been “neutralised”. Attackers brought carnage to the streets of the capital, stabbing a police officer and revellers with 12-inch knives, reportedly shouting “this is for Allah“. The trio were pictured wearing what appeared to be explosive vests, with police later confirming they were hoaxes.

Seven people have been killed and at least 48 injured in a terror incident in London in which three male attackers were shot dead by police. A white van hit pedestrians on London Bridge at about 22:00 BST on Saturday, then three men got out and stabbed people in nearby Borough Market. Police said the three men were wearing fake bomb vests. One of those hurt is a police officer who was stabbed after going to help. His injuries are not life-threatening. Political parties have suspended national general election campaigning and the prime minister is chairing a meeting of the government’s Cobra emergency committee.
Theresa May described Saturday night’s events as “dreadful”, while Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn called them “brutal and shocking”. Borough Market is an area known for its bars and restaurants which were busy on a warm summer evening. London Mayor Sadiq Khan said it was “a deliberate and cowardly attack on innocent Londoners”, but the capital remained the “safest global city” and Londoners would not be cowed by terrorism.

The assault unfolded — and ended — quickly, with police fatally shooting the three attackers within eight minutes. But the men had achieved their apparent goal of turning a balmy summer night in Britain’s capital into a scene of carnage.
It began Saturday night when a van veered off the road and barrelled into pedestrians on busy London Bridge. The three men fled the van with large knives and attacked people at bars and restaurants in nearby Borough Market, police and witnesses said. Police said counterterrorism officers raided several addresses in Barking, an East London suburb, and arrested 12 people there Sunday morning in connection with the attack.

London attack: Australian woman stabbed in neck during rampage

One of two Australians caught up in the London terror attack has been identified as Queenslander Candice Hedge, who was stabbed in the neck during the rampage that left seven dead. Ms Hedge, who moved to London a year ago, called her family from St Thomas hospital to tell her family she’s OK, according to the ABC, which reports that she is in “good spirits” despite her ordeal. Ms Hedge was among scores of people hurt when a trio of extremists in a white van mowed down pedestrians on London Bridge before proceeding to the nearby Borough Market on foot, stabbing and slashing anyone in their path. Somehow Ms Hedge’s attacker’s blade missed her major arteries and windpipe, leaving her with a non-life threatening injury.
Although the three terrorists were able to wreak a great deal of havoc in a short space of time, an exceptionally fast police response meant they were shot dead within eight minutes of the first reports of the attack. At least one of them was wearing a fake suicide vest, which has led to some speculation as to what their endgame may have been.

Witnesses have revealed the terrifying moment that dozens of armed officers stormed a Tube station just minutes after a man in a red tracksuit ran across London Bridge from the scene of the attack. Seven people have died and three terrorists have been shot dead by armed police after they went on a horrific knife rampage in central London last night. The men, described as being ‘of Mediterranean origin’, mowed down up to 20 people with a white van hurtling across London Bridge at 50mph on Saturday. One of the casualties is reportedly a police officer. But earlier in the night, amid confusion and chaos police stormed Monument Station with at least 50 armed officers with dogs seen by witnesses. Bystanders were told to run with Bank and Monument Tube stations being closed down. Oliver Jones, a journalist who witnessed the sudden police action, told MailOnline: ‘There are probably about 30 to 40 police cars there.
‘Police entered Monument Underground station – there were five police dogs then the police cordon was moved back again. ‘Earlier before police entered Monument there was a man wearing a red tracksuit who was running. ‘They appear to have stopped him, he ran behind police cars and didn’t really appear from the other side – then a lot of police entered Monument Underground.’ According to witnesses the attackers were ‘randomly stabbing’ revellers with 12-inch hunting knives in the nearby Borough Market area of bars and restaurants in what authorities described as terrorist incidents. One man was reportedly stabbed five times in the chest.

Britain was already on edge after a suicide bombing two weeks ago at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, in northwest England, that killed 22 people and injured dozens of others. Grande and other stars are scheduled to perform a benefit concert for victims Sunday night.
The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the Manchester bombing, but there has not yet been a claim of responsibility for the London attack. May, who faces a general election Thursday, said the recent attacks are not directly connected but that “terrorism breeds terrorism” and attackers copy one another. She also said five credible plots have recently been disrupted. “They are bound together by the single evil ideology of Islamist extremism that preaches hatred, sows division, and promotes sectarianism,” she said. “It is an ideology that claims our Western values and freedom, democracy and human rights are incompatible with the religion of Islam.”

Police make 12 arrests in connection with London attack

Police made 12 arrests in east London on Sunday in connection with an attack on Saturday night in which seven people died and 48 were injured, London’s Metropolitan Police Service said in a statement. “Officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command have this morning, Sunday 4 June, arrested 12 people in Barking, east London, in connection with last night’s incidents in London Bridge and the Borough Market area.
Searches of a number of addresses in Barking are continuing,” the statement said. Three assailants drove a van into pedestrians on London Bridge before stabbing people on the street in the nearby Borough Market area. All three were shot dead by police at the scene.

(CNN)Attackers targeted the heart of London on Saturday night, with a white van plowing into screaming pedestrians on London Bridge, followed by stabbings in bars around Borough Market. Police officers pursued and shot dead three attackers within eight minutes of the first emergency call, authorities said. At least seven people were killed and 48 others injured, police said. The three attackers were shot dead by police.
- At 10:08 p.m. (5:08 p.m. ET), London Metropolitan officers responded to reports of a vehicle hitting pedestrians on London Bridge.
- Witness Mark Roberts said he saw a van speed across London Bridge toward the underground station before it suddenly swerved, bounced off the pavement and hit several pedestrians. What sounded like gunfire rang out five to 10 minutes later, he said.
- Brad Meyers had just left London Bridge when he heard a “boom” behind him, which he thought was a car hitting the guardrails or other vehicles. He said he saw someone jump into the water in fear.
- Multiple ambulances rushed to the scene, with the first team arriving within six minutes, according to the London Ambulance Service.

Ariana Grande Manchester concert WILL go ahead and has ‘more purpose’ after London attack

A benefit concert for the Manchester bombing victims will still take place but security will be stepped up following the London attack, police have said. Ariana Grande said she was “praying for London” ahead of the concert on Sunday night, which will see her return to the stage for the first time since suicide bomber Salman Abedi detonated a device, killing 22 fans and parents as they left her show at the Manchester Arena on May 22. The One Love Manchester event at Lancashire Cricket Club’s Old Trafford ground will take place less than 24 hours after seven people died in the London Bridge attack – the country’s second terrorist outrage in less than two weeks.
“We must not be afraid and in tribute to all those affected here and around the world, we will bring our voices together and sing loudly.”
Ariana’s manager Scooter Braun has also said the concert now has a “greater purpose” following the London terror attack, and that all the acts involved are showing “unwavering” support. He said in a statement: “After the events last night in London, and those in Manchester just two weeks ago, we feel a sense of responsibility to honour those lost, injured, and affected. “We plan to honour them with courage, bravery, and defiance in the face of fear. Today’s One Love Manchester benefit concert will not only continue, but will do so with greater purpose.
