US presidential debate: Trump launches ferocious attack on Clintons

Donald Trump has responded to an outcry over his remarks about groping women by launching a blistering attack against Hillary Clinton and her husband. The Republican nominee denied ever sexually assaulting women, but turned his fire on ex-President Bill Clinton in a bitter US presidential debate. “There’s never been anybody in the history of politics that has been so abusive to women,” he said. Hillary Clinton refused to address his comments about her husband. Mr Trump’s attack on the Clintons came after moderator Anderson Cooper asked him about a 2005 video released on Friday that revealed Mr Trump bragging about groping women.

Julian Assange’s press conference was greatly misunderstood on Tuesday’s as people expected to get a “damaging” leak regarding Hillary Clinton’s election campaign. I myself was disappointed when the leaks never materialised in what was expected to be a press conference announcing the latest unpublished Clinton leaks. Like so many people I had believed that WikiLeaks was about to reveal information that would lead to “Clinton’s indictment“. The fact is WikiLeaks never made any such promises to reveal any leaks during this press conference which was scheduled in advance to celebrate WikiLeaks 10th anniversary. I was duped like so many others by the mainstream media who had misquoted Julian Assange and the independent media who parroted the mainstream narrative. I failed to fact check what had been reported since the information was being spread by so many different sources. With so many different sources reporting on the October Surprise it seemed a sure thing.

WikiLeaks plans to release documents on US election and Google over the next ten weeks

October 4, 2016

WikiLeaks plans to release documents pertaining to Google and the US electoral system over the next ten weeks, the organization announced today. WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange announced the planned release schedule in a video address at the end of a press conference in Berlin on Tuesday morning, where the organization was celebrating its tenth anniversary. Assange said the forthcoming documents will pertain to Google, the US presidential election, arms trading, war, oil, and mass surveillance. The organization plans to release them on a weekly basis over the next ten weeks, with Assange saying that all information related to the US presidential race will be published before election day on November 8th. There was a lot of build-up to today’s press conference, in anticipation of what had been billed as an “October surprise” that could swing the US presidential election. Instead, WikiLeaks devoted most of the event to recounting its most notorious releases and refuting criticism levied against it. Assange acknowledged the anticipation of a bombshell release in a winding address to reporters, though he declined to say whether the upcoming leaks would tilt the election toward Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump.

The Violent Tone of Black Lives Matter Has Alienated Even Liberals Like Me

DALLAS — Early Thursday evening, in the loud pitch of protests for the Black Lives Matter movement here at Belo Garden Park, at the corner of South Griffin Street and Main Street, a quiet moment went mostly unnoticed. A smiling middle-aged black man, carrying a handwritten placard, “No Justice. No Peace,” stopped to take a photo of a phalanx of several police officers. One of the officers, a white man, responded with a smile and said, “Wanna take a picture together?” A Hispanic female officer stepped forward to take the man’s camera phone, while the protestor stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the police officers, his sign visible at his feet, a black police officer on his right and the white officer on his left, all smiling. Beside them, with friends and my son, I smiled. It was a moment of warmth in an unfortunate race war that has polarized America.

9/11 report’s classified ’28 pages’ about potential Saudi Arabia ties released

The Obama administration has released the long-classified 28 pages of the official congressional report on the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks, which concerned the alleged ties of the Saudi Arabian government to the 9/11 hijackers. Publishing the long-awaited pages 13 years after they were first classified, the White House insisted they show no link between Saudi Arabia and the hijackers who carried out the terrorist attacks. The pages put into the public domain the remaining unseen section of the 2002 report, from the joint congressional inquiry into intelligence community activities before and after the 9/11 attacks. “This information does not change the assessment of the US government that there’s no evidence that the Saudi government or senior Saudi individuals funded al-Qaida,” said Josh Earnest, the White House press secretary. “The number one takeaway from this should be that this administration is committed to transparency even when it comes to sensitive information related to national security.”

SNP ministers defeated on NHS cuts

September 28, 2016

Scotland’s Health Minister is under pressure to review a series of cuts and closures to local NHS services after the SNP government lost its first parliamentary vote since May’s Holyrood election. MSPs backed by 64 votes to zero a Labour motion demanding Shona Robison “call in” and review health board plans to downgrade or close services across the country. The 62 SNP MSPs abstained. Although the vote was not binding on the minority SNP government, Anas Sarwar, Labour’s health spokesman, called on ministers to “respect the will of parliament”. The party used an earlier debate to highlight how maternity services at the Vale of Leven Hospital in Alexandria and Inverclyde Hospital in Greenock, paediatric services at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and trauma orthopaedics at Monklands Hospital in Airdrie are all at risk.

Police release bodycam footage of Keith Scott shooting

September 25, 2016

Police in Charlotte, North Carolina, have released officer bodycam and dashcam footage of a controversial shooting of a black man on Tuesday. They also released pictures of a handgun and marijuana that police say Keith Lamont Scott possessed. Calls for the footage to be released had increased in the four days since Mr Scott was shot. His wife released her own video from her phone on Friday. Mr Scott’s family says he was carrying a book and not a gun. Charlotte police chief Kerr Putney told reporters the victim was “absolutely in possession of a handgun”.
